John, Jim and Mike Thayer join their father, Oregon State Defense Force Brig. Gen. James B. Thayer (second from right), at the construction site of the new Oregon Military Museum.

The new facility, named in honor of Brig. Gen. Thayer, is being funded by a two-year capital campaign.

A sold-out gala fundraising event is scheduled for April 20.

The Thayers were joined by Miss Oregon Nichole Meade, former Oregon Governors Ted Kulongoski and Vic Atiyeh, Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs Director Cameron Smith, and President of Emmert International Terry Emmert.

The group was able to also watch the removal of the old Camp Withycombe guard shack from the premises.
