Oregon Airmen return from Afghanistan deployment

Oregon Air National Guard Staff Sgt. William Briones stands at attention with his fellow Airmen of the 173rd Security Forces Squadron during a demobilization ceremony, July 21, recognizing 26 Airmen from the 173 Fighter Wing Security Forces who recently deployed to Afghanistan for six months.

The deployment was unique for the Security Forces Airmen. They spent the majority of their time working outside the wire ensuring the security and safety of Coalition Forces--a first for deployed security forces from Kingsley Field, Klamath Falls, Ore.

Oregon Army National Guard unit awarded Meritorious Unit Citation during annual training

The 2-218 FA received the award for exceptionally meritorious conduct of sustainment and security missions that took place over a 150,000 square mile area of operations during their July 2009 - April 2010 deployment to Iraq.

Bilateral military training includes sportsmanship during Tiger Balm 2012

Members of the Singapore Armed Forces and the U.S. military face off in an ultimate rugby tournament July 12 at the Regional Training Institute, Waimanalo, Hawaii.

The game took place during the bilateral training exercise, Tiger Balm 2012. Members of the Oregon Army National Guard are training with Singapore counterparts during the week-long exercise in Hawaii.

Oregon Air National Guard to conduct July Fourth flyovers around the state

The Oregon Air National Guard is scheduled conduct Independence Day flyovers, at various locations throughout Oregon.

F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the 142nd Fighter Wing out of Portland and the 173rd Fighter Wing out of Klamath Falls, are scheduled to conduct flyovers at the following community locations and times on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

10:00 a.m. Fourth of July Parade, Hood River, Ore.
10:15 a.m. Fourth of July Parade, Prineville, Ore.
10:35 a.m. Fourth of July Parade, Hillsboro, Ore.
10:55 a.m. Fourth of July Parade, Camas, Wash.

There will also be a flyover July 6 at 6:45 p.m. over Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, Ore. for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Patriotic Tribute event.
    
All flyovers will be approximately 1,000 feet above ground level and at approximately 400 mph airspeed. Flights could be cancelled or times changed due to inclement weather or operational contingencies.

The Oregon Air National Guard has been an integral part of the nation's air defense since 1941. The 142nd Fighter Wing guards the Pacific Northwest skies from Northern California to the Canadian border, on 24-hour alert as part of the North American Air Defense system.  The 173rd Fighter Wing is home to the premier F-15 pilot training facility in the United States.
