Cara Phillips, promotions director with Alpha Broadcasting, fires a Howitzer under close supervision of Soldiers from Alpha Battery, 2-218 Field Artillery Battalion, Oregon Army National Guard.

Phillips' firing the shot officially began the 7th Annual Golfing for the Guard Tournament at Heron Lakes Golf Course, May 25.

Alpha Broadcasting sponsored the tournament to raise donations for the Oregon National Guard Emergency Relief Fund and the Oregon Military Museum Capital Campaign Fund.

The tournament raised donations for the Oregon National Guard Emergency Relief Fund and the Oregon Military Museum Capital Campaign Fund. Alpha Broadcasting, FM News 101, KXL, and 750 The Game, sponsored the event.

The Emergency Relief Fund provides financial assistance to Oregon National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and their immediate families who are in need of emergency housing, food, medical or dental treatment, transportation, or temporary income assistance.

The Oregon Military Museum Capital Campaign will fund the renovation of the Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycombe. The Oregon Military Museum's mission is to tell the story of Oregon's military heritage with a focus on the Oregon National Guard and the state's militia, collect and ensure access to historical artifacts and archives, preserve items entrusted to its care and educate and inspire visitors through exhibits, living history and interpretive programs.
